Clarke and Whing back in contention for The U's
- Whing and Clarke in contention
- Collins OK after knock
- Experience the key says Appleton
Oxford United have no new injury worries and could welcome goalkeeper Ryan Clarke and midfielder Andy Whing back into the squad as they face Newport County at the Kassam Stadium on Saturday.
Michael Collins trained today after suffering a cut in the game at Luton on Saturday and will be available again in midfield, while both Clarke and Whing played the full 90 minutes as a United Development side beat Swindon Town 3-2 this week.
“Both of them did well” Head Coach Michael Appleton said “They are ready and available as and when required and I certainly won’t be turning my back on two experienced players. In the situation we are in at the minute we are going to need as many experienced players as we can. With the little period we have had over the last ten games, the more Ryan Clarkes and Andy Whings we have in the dressing room, players who know how to deal with that, the better.”
“Michael Collins didn’t train Monday or Tuesday but was back today and should be fine. Newport are on a good run and it will be tough but we are confident and we want the players to be ruthless on Saturday. Win the game, that’s all that matters.”
