Defender arrives on loan at the Kassam Stadium
Oxford United have strengthened their squad with the youth loan signing of Charlton Athletic left-back Tareiq Holmes-Dennis, initially on a one month deal.Holmes-Dennis has progressed through the youth set up at the Valley since joining the Under 9s. The highly-rated defender, and England Youth international, captained the Charlton Youth side and then become a regular starter in the Addicks' Under 21 side. The adaptable 18-year-old can also play in a more central role and Oxford Head Coach Michael Appleton is pleased to welcome him to the U’s:
“He is very highly thought of at Charlton. He is strong defensively and he also has quality on the ball. He will add real competition on that left hand side and we’re looking forward to working with him.”
Tareiq is delighted to join the U’s:
“I think it’s a great opportunity for me. I have heard a lot about the way Oxford like to play football and I want to come in, train hard and hopefully play as many first team games as I can. I have been at Charlton a long time now and coming to Oxford is a chance to further my football education at a really good club.”
Tareiq goes straight into the squad to face Tranmere Rovers at home on Saturday. Tickets are available from 01865 337533 or www.oufctickets.co.uk
