Big atmosphere for Saturday's big match against Wycombe
Saturday is Yellow Army Day as Oxford United welcome Wycombe Wanderers to the Kassam Stadium. Fans are being urged to get behind the U’s and bring as much colour and noise as they can as United take on a Wycombe side who have started the season in great form.
“I thought the fans who travelled to Carlisle were brilliant and we want as many as possible to come along on Saturday now” said U’s Head Coach Michael Appleton. “There should be a fantastic atmosphere and it’s a game for everyone to look forward to.”
Midfielder Andy Whing has settled back into the team in recent weeks and is looking for United to show the same form that earned them back to back wins against Tranmere and Northampton last week.
“It’s a big game” he said, “Obviously it’s a local derby and with Wycombe bringing a lot of fans it will be an enjoyable game for both teams. If we can show a reaction after Carlisle and take the two performances against Tranmere and Northampton then I’m sure we can do well and get the three points.”
There will be pre-match entertainment around the ground, a new playlist of pre-match music as chosen by the fans and we have former U’s star Rodney Smithson as our guest to chat to fans in the Manor Bar.
Joe Nicholls of the Yellow Army is hoping it will be a day to remember, on and off the pitch:
“Home performances have been a lot better this season and that’s great. What we want to do is get all the fans to rally round, get behind the players and get behind the club. It is great to watch entertaining football played in a great atmosphere so we want people to bring a friend, wear their scarves and Oxford shirts, and come along to enjoy their day.”
