Hayden and Williams on the mark as the U's beat the Robins
Oxford United’s youth team were 2-1 winners over local rivals Swindon on Saturday. Skipper Lewis Hayden and striker Josh Williams got the goals as Chris Allen’s side came back from 1-0 down to win the game.“We didn’t start right” Chris told us. “It was windy and we didn’t play to the conditions while Swindon moved the ball like they normally do and caused us one or two problems. We coped with it pretty well but then they got a bit of a soft penalty and we are 1-0 down.
“Then they got a second penalty, again a tough decision for us, but this time Jack Stevens made a good save and we stay in the game.
“In the second half we had the wind behind us and we told them to just keep doing what they had been doing, move the ball and create chances. There were some really good interchanges and we started to get on top. Lewis Hayden got down the left hand side and put a good ball across and Josh Williams finished really well to make it 1-1.
“Then Lewis did well again, Josh created half a yard for himself and shot low. The keeper saved but Lewis had followed in and tapped it in to make it 2-1 to us. We were on top then and the second half was fantastic from us really.
“I seem to say we were good in one half each week so it is all about getting that consistency throughout the 90 minutes, but this was a good win and a good performance.”
