Hartlepool Preview

We look forward to tonight's game as Oxford United welcome Hartlepool United in Sky Bet League 2

United welcome Hartlepool United to the Kassam Stadium tonight (7.45pm) in Sky Bet League 2. Here we present a full guide to the game.

Team News
United will be without the suspended Tom Newey and Michael Raynes as well as Johnny Mullins who is ruled out with a foot injury.

Matt Bevans, David Lynn and Sam Long are in in contention while Andy Whing could make his first appearance since returning from injury. Dave Kitson remains a doubt after a hamstring problem while David Connolly, James Constable and Sean Rigg are all pushing for recalls up front.

See Mickey Lewis previewing the game in Yellow Player right now where we also have a great Preview Show featuring James Constable, Max Crocombe and a budgie impression.

The Opposition
Hartlepool are mounting a late charge for the play-offs and are currently in 10th place. Manager Colin Cooper will be without Andy Monkhouse who picked up a hamstring strain in the win over Bristol Rovers.

“We are going to have to be at our very best to get anything, Oxford are a good side,” Cooper said “It’s not always about winning gloriously, it’s about doing the right things.

“We have players who can create chances and score. If we keep Oxford United to nil then at least we come home with something. And if we do keep them to nil, I’m pretty sure we can come back with 1-0 or a 2-0 or whatever.

“When you go away from home, you have to be solid. If we stay nice and compact we know that at some point we’ll get one, two or three chances, then it depends if we can take them. But we have to be strong and disciplined – if Oxford come out and blow us away then we have nowhere to go.

“If we can take every punch Oxford throw at us and then counter, there’s every chance of giving them a good game.”
