Watford game postponed as pair look to step up return
There was frustration for United today as the Development Squad’s game at Watford was postponed due to a waterlogged pitch.
The Development Squad games are the ideal opportunity for United’s under 21 players to play competitive matches but also offer a chance for senior players to ease back into games.
Both Andy Whing and Jon Meades were due to play a half in today’s game as they come back from long-term injuries. The postponement means that they will train instead, with both players responding well to treatment and back in full training.
“It would have been good to get them some game time” said Mickey Lewis. “Both of them have trained well and are getting stronger by the day and we thought the game would be a good way to get them playing again. Whingy was due to play the first half then Meadesy the second. It’s not just them though - Josh Hill was due to play in goal after an injury and all of the lads were looking forward to it as well
“There’s nothing you can do about the weather so it means they will train along with the rest of the squad instead and we will keep working ahead of the Burton game on Saturday.”
There are interviews with both Andy Whing and Jon Meades in Saturday's Matchday Magazine against Burton.
