Mullins Looking Forward to Pre-Season Return

Defender fit again as United prepare to report back

One man looking forward to Monday more than most is defender Johnny Mullins.

United’s first team squad return for pre-season training next week and the 28-year old defender is fit and raring to go after missing the last part of last season with a foot injury. Johnny had been in inspired form for most of the season but missed out on the last two months, meaning that he is determined to make up for lost time this season.

“It was really frustrating,” he told www.oufc.co.uk. “I picked up the injury at Chesterfield in March. I fractured a metatarsal and really the only cure for that is rest. It wasn’t easy missing the run-in and I would have loved to be involved but thankfully the injury has settled down and I feel fit and ready to go again.”

With that injury behind him there has been plenty of hard work for the former Rotherham man:

“We were all given a programme to follow over the summer.  Obviously mine was tailored to making a full recovery and regaining my fitness but all of the lads will have been working hard. It is important to get away and recharge the batteries as well, but I have been in the gym and out doing a few runs because you want to start pre-season with a good base of fitness and build from there.

“Pre-season is always tough but you know it is for your own good and I am really looking forward to coming back in, training hard, and playing games again.”
