Young U's beaten at Derby

Hawtin on the mark but U's beaten by Rams

A youthful United Development side lost 4-2 at Derby County this afternoon in a behind closed doors friendly.

The U’s fielded five trialists, three in defence, against a more experienced Derby side for whom Republic of Ireland striker Connor Sammon scored a hat trick.

3-0 down at the break United responded well and Aidan Hawtin and one of the trialists netted to make the final score 4-2 and leave Coach Mickey Lewis happier with the second 45 minutes:

“It is never easy when you have so many trialists in the line up but with Sam Humphreys and Callum O’Dowda playing last night and Josh Shama just picking up a slight knock when he came on in that game it gave us the chance to look at one or two players.

“Overall, against a strong Derby side, the lads did OK. It was a much better second half all round. We scored a couple of goals but we looked better all over the pitch after the break and played some decent stuff."
