Yellow Army and Oxford united working together
Oxford United striker David Connolly has thanked the Yellow Army for backing him by sponsoring his home shirt.
U’s fans, the Yellow Army, made the cash pledge using funds donated by United supporters throughout the season.
Chloe Smart, 15, of the Yellow Army, met Connolly on the pitch before Saturday’s Sky Bet L2 encounter against Mansfield, on behalf of the Yellow Army and the striker thanked fans for their support.
Connolly, who opened the scoring in United’s 3-0 victory, said: “I’ve been made to feel really welcome by everyone since coming to Oxford – by the staff and the fans alike.
“It’s a great club and the Yellow Army have been absolutely fantastic from the minute I arrived. To sponsor my shirt is a lovely gesture and hope I can repay them by continuing to score goals for the club.”
Chloe, who took part in the 12 mile Yellow Army Big Walk to raise funds for the club and the Helen and Douglas House Hospice last year, was delighted to meet one of her new heroes.
She said: “It’s a great feeling knowing that as Oxford United fans we have teamed up to sponsor David.
“It was an honour to be invited to meet David and I’m proud that the Yellow Army has made a difference to David and the club.
“David scored again, so hopefully the extra backing of the Yellow Army is helping.”
The £144 donation to Oxford United will help the club cover the costs of the striker's home kit.
Yellow Army funds can be used to help United in numerous ways, from supporting the club where required, to improving the match day atmosphere.
