Yellow Army Back Connolly

Supporters to sponsor new arrival at Oxford United

The Yellow Army have sponsored new Oxford United favourite David Connolly's home shirt until the end of the season - thanks to the generosity of U's supporters.

Oxford United fans, The Yellow Army, made the cash pledge using funds donated by fans throughout the season.

It means the striker, who has made an immediate impact at United by scoring on his debut against AFC Wimbledon on Saturday, is officially backed by every Oxford fan.

The £144 donation to Oxford United will help the club cover the costs of the striker's home kit. The Yellow Army will be proudly named as Connelly's home kit sponsor in the match day programme.

Jonathan Beesley, of Abingdon and the Yellow Army said: "This would not have been possible without the generosity of Oxford United supporters who help make our club one I'm proud to be a part of.

"It's thanks to every United fan who has made a contribution that this could be done, as shirt sponsorship really does help the club.

"The Yellow Army is all about backing the club and improving the atmosphere on match days, so we're delighted the Yellow Army is sponsoring David's shirt - it's a fantastic way to welcome him to the club."

"Yellow Army funds can be used to help United in the transfer market, to improve the match day atmosphere by adding more colour to the stadium, or by backing the club in areas like this," added Chris Allen, a United fan from Thame.

"David certainly has made an instant impression on Oxford fans and we now hope with the Yellow Army's backing he will score the goals that help fire us to promotion.

"It's a great feeling to know that our new striker has got an extra bit of backing from the fans at this crucial stage in the season.

"The Yellow Army is behind David and the entire team as we enter a big few months for United."

It has not yet been decided what will happen to the shirt at the end of the season. Every United fan is part of the Yellow Army, so if you have any ideas or would like to volunteer to help you're most welcome to get involved. You can get in touch via email: yellowarmyoufc@gmail.com
