"The lads passed a massive test"
Head Coach Michael Appleton was delighted with the way his side bounced back to win at Plymouth on Sunday.
“I think we were struggling with confidence a little bit in the first part of the game after a very, very difficult game on Boxing Day,” he told Yellow Player after the 2-1 win. “But they found that little bit of belief and having talked to them about the importance of staying disciplined and keeping our composure we then get the benefit of them going down to ten men.
“We said at half time that we might have to be patient and it might have to be the last five minutes before we got something. Ultimately it wasn’t quite that late when we got a poacher goal from John. That’s why we brought him into the club. When the ball is bouncing around in the box he tends to be in or around it. There were a couple of people queuing up behind him as well which was pleasing. And then obviously it was a fantastic strike from Robbo to win the game.
“Friday took a lot out of us but we came here against a side with a fantastic home record and it was a difficult game for us but the lads passed a massive test and this should be a real confidence booster going into the second half of the season.
“We spoke today about momentum, about habits and doing the right things. They become repetitive and I genuinely believe that good teams do those things well, they don’t do it for two or three games then take their foot off the gas. Now let’s see if we are capable of doing it here.”
