Youth Team lose Out

Under 18s beaten at Plymouth

United’s under 18s were beaten for the first time this season as they went down 2-1 at Plymouth Argyle on Saturday morning in the Youth Alliance League.

A fine goal from top scorer James Roberts was the highlight, as Coach Chris Allen told www.oufc.co.uk:

“It was the second early start in a row. We kick off at 11am so a trip to Plymouth means we are leaving Oxford pretty early and to be honest we looked as though we were still on the coach. We were 1-0 down after two minutes. It came from our own corner and Plymouth broke on us, took the ball through midfield and the lad got in behind for a one-on-one with the keeper. He finished well and we were a goal down

We didn’t really get going in the first half hour but improved a bit before the break and then created a few more chances in the second half. James Roberts got us level when Jamie Calvin gave him a ball to run on to and he scored with a very good left-footed strike to make it 1-1.

But Plymouth came back into it and our keeper George Legg needed to save a penalty to keep it level before we went behind again when George parried a free kick but their player reacted quicker than any of ours to score and make the final score 2-1.

We have won one, drawn one and lost one now and there are lessons to learn with each game. On Saturday it was to switch on from the very start of the warm-up and to be bright as soon as the game starts.
