Gateshead Preview

United prepare for the FA Cup

We look ahead to this Saturday's FA Cup first round game against Gateshead.

Team News
United welcome back defender Tom Newey as they take on Gateshead in the FA Cup with Budweiser. The experienced left back missed last weekend's home game against Bristol Rovers after picking up five yellow cards this season but is eligible again and gives Manager Chris Wilder interesting choices to make at the back. United have not conceded from open play for five games and moved skipper Jake Wright to left back to cover for Newey's absence last week so Wilder must decide whether to bring the more familiar left back straight into the side or stick with the same back four.

Ryan Williams has been given permission by Fulham to play while on loan but Asa Hall is still waiting for clearance from Shrewsbury.

Alfie Potter will be out for two months with an ankle injury .

Ryan Clarke joins the fun in the Preview Show in Yellow Player where you can also see Chris Wilder's pre-match thoughts.

The Opposition

Gateshead are currently eleventh in the Skrill Football Conference just four points off the Play-Off places. Manager Gary Mills is a very experienced boss who has previously been at clubs such as Notts County, Tamworth and York and was recently reported to have turned down a lucrative move to Forest Green Rovers. He was in confident mood ahead of Saturday's game:

"Bring it on! We'll go there and play our own game. We won't change the way we play to stop Oxford" he said. "The players have given me everything, we're in a good run and confident of getting a result."
