United players to be special guests at Day of Song event
United are helping to spread festive cheer in the city, with several players taking part in this year’s Christmas celebrations in Oxford city centre. Players from the club will be special guests at Oxford City Council’s Day of Song event on Sunday 24th November to mark the culmination of the city’s Christmas Light Festival and will lead the singing of carols as part of the Oxford United Choir.
The Oxford United Choir will consist of striker James Constable, defenders Johnny Mullins and Sam Long plus midfielder Scott Davies as well as players from the youth team and women’s team. They are being trained by Darren Lord, a musical director who has previously worked on West End productions of Mamma Mia and Wicked.
Constable said: ““I am delighted to be a part of the Christmas Choir to really show that we as a club want to be involved with our local community. I’m not convinced by my voice but hopefully Darren Lord will be able to improve that.”
The Day of Song takes place from 10am until 4pm across the city with the finale at 3.30pm in St Giles on the Main Stage.
Christmas Light Festival is an annual event that brings Oxford’s communities together with an exciting programme of art, music, dance and performance. The festival weekend begins with Christmas Light Night and the Lantern Parade on Friday 22nd November.
Many of the city’s best loved cultural venues – including its museums, galleries, theatres, Castle and Town Hall – will be opening their doors to the public for unique late night viewings of their displays and exhibitions.
