Under 18's stay on title trail
United's Youth Team kept up their title hopes with a 1-0 win at Cheltenham Town on Saturday.
Chris Allen's Under 18 side made it nine league wins in a row thanks to a goal from captain Sam Long against the Robins, and afterwards Chris told us that his side might have won more comfortably than the final scoreline suggests:
"In the first half the lads were like a team possessed!" Chris laughed. "We started very fast and for 45 minutes showed terrific energy and desire. Our front two were tremendous. James Roberts looked menacing all the way through, bullying their centre half and working very hard for the side. He smashed a free kick against the bar and was a real handful. His strike partner Callum O'Dowda was just as good and had another shot that hit the post.
They caused plenty of problems but the whole team played very well really. The only goal came from the captain who has scored seven goals this season now from centre half. It came from a free kick and we won the second ball, played it back in and Sam put the chance away.
Sam Humphreys should have scored from close range and in truth we could have scored five goals before half time but because we hadn't taken those chances we knew we hadn't killed the game off.
Sure enough Cheltenham came back at us in the second half. It was more even and we had to work hard to keep the lead but we saw it through and over the 90 minutes it was a very good performance".
