Chris Wilder on beating Barnet

United may have left it late, but were worthy winners against Barnet last night. Manager Chris Wilder was delighted to see Michael Raynes’s 95th minute header settle a fiercely contested affair.

“I think it was deserved” Chris told Yellow Player. “It’s about time we had a late winner like that. Just before it went in we said “when’s the last time we scored one of these?” Happily it went in. I thought we should have been out of sight before that but Barnet are a decent side as you see in the form table. We always knew it was going to be a difficult game. They have beaten some good sides and are a hard nut to crack.

“We just needed that one goal a bit earlier to settle us down but we kept going right to the end and however a win comes you take it. We have to keep it going now into the next match but the boys can take great heart from the way they have come back from last week against Rotherham. It was really important that we nailed it again tonight. Hopefully people will go away happy.

“It’s a great result on a night where there were a few draws elsewhere. We ended up winning and jumping up the table. I’m delighted for everyone associated with the club. The Chairman said in his programme notes about sticking together and I think the fans were great again. On current form we are OK and now we will look to get decent recovery and rest and be ready to go again against Chesterfield on Saturday.”
