Chris wilder on Fleetwood defeat
Chris Wilder confessed that some of his players looked short on confidence as the U’s were beaten 2-1 by Fleetwood Town last night. A stunning goal from Liam Davis was scant consolation for the United manager as he looked back on the game in Yellow Player afterwards:
“I didn’t think we played as well as we did on Saturday and there is definitely a lack of confidence in certain players. We can’t change it around too much because that is my 18 players out there. The youth team players are not ready and it would be unfair to stick them in, and then the bench is not jumping out at us. So we have 18 players and we have got to find it from within.
“It was typical League Two game against a decent side but they have scored from two throws and had three shots. We have got to be braver, and that is costing us at the moment”.
United once again created openings but there was an obvious hesitancy in front of goal, which the manager knows his side must overcome:
“You can’t replicate those positions and you’d love to show everyone what we do in training: the goals that go in from every direction and the boys having the confidence to shoot. It’s hard out there on the pitch at the moment but we have got to find a bit of a spark, whether it’s a home game or an away game, and that has to come from within the players. We will give them as much help as possible. It’s not a fitness or organisation thing, it’s a confidence thing and that’s in the players’ heads. One performance, one result, kick starts everything and we will go again.”
