Development Squad Lose at Bournemouth

Under-21 side beaten by the Cherries

United’s Development Squad played their second game of the season today and were beaten at Bournemouth as the Cherries under-21 side won 3-1.

United’s Development Squad will play a series of games throughout the season with the aim to give young players the chance to show what they can do and bridge the gap between the youth team and first team.

In a game played at AFC Bournemouth’s training ground, United had Max Crocombe in goal and then a back four of Matt Bevans, a trialist, Kenzer Lee and David Lynn. Youth team skipper Aidan Hawtin joined fellow under-18 player Josh Ashby in midfield, with Josh Ruffels and Callum O’Dowda, while Josh Shama played just behind striker Tyrone Marsh.

The first half was relatively even in terms of possession but the Championship side were far more clinical in front of goal and were 3-0 up at the break, despite United creating chances of their own. Bournemouth’s goals came from Jayden Stockley and two from Jordan Chiedozie, son of former Notts County and Spurs winger John.

The second half saw United regroup and match their hosts and they got their deserved goal when under-18 top scorer James Roberts finished well to make it 3-1.

Mickey Lewis told us:

“We know we will be playing against strong teams at this level but for the second game in a row the boys played well without perhaps getting their reward. They showed was a bit of character to come back after being 3-0 down. Bournemouth took their chances but the second half was very even and it was good to see Robbo get a goal.  ”
