Pledge your support as fans put their best foot forward
We’re delighted to announce that more than £1300 has already been raised in sponsorship for the OxVox Walk to Wycombe.
On 27 October more than 25 United fans will join U’s legend Les Philips and club director Simon Lenegan to walk 24 miles from the Kassam Stadium to the club’s away fixture against Wycombe Wanderers. The walk has been arranged by supporters’ trust OxVox and will begin at 5:30am from the stadium and take more than seven hours to complete! Those involved have already raised a magnificent £1,355, which will be split equally between the Oxford United Youth & Community Trust (a registered charity) and Helen and Douglas House Hospices.
The Oxford United Youth and Community Trust engages with more than 30,000 people per year and is an integral part of the local community. But the grants the Trust receives don’t cover its running costs, and the walk aims to raise as much money as possible to plug this gap.
Helen & Douglas House has the time and expertise to care for children and young adults with life-shortening conditions and support their families. The two hospice houses offer specialist symptom and pain management, medically-supported short breaks and end-of-life care, as well as counselling and practical support for the whole family. It costs more than £4.5 million per year to run both hospice houses but the charity receive only 15-18% of this from sources other than voluntary donations.
If you haven’t donated already please do consider supporting these two great charities and the magnificent efforts of all the fans taking part. You can donate online at www.justgiving.com/oxvox or in person at the Priory Pub. As of today you can now also donate via text. All you need to do is text 70070 and then write oufc96 followed by the amount you wish to donate (eg. oufc96 £10).
