United welcome Northampton Town to the Kassam Stadium on Saturday with First Team Coach Mickey Lewis looking for the U’s look to get back to winning ways. The U’s conceded a last gasp winner at Chesterfield, then saw a last minute header of their own bounce away off of both posts at Barnet on Tuesday, and Mickey told Yellow Player that he is hoping for a change of fortune against an in-form Cobblers side tomorrow.
“You don’t want to talk about it but even the best Manager in the country, Sir Alex Ferguson, has said that you need a bit of luck, and we really haven’t had any. But you only had to see the lads training this week because they were absolutely terrific. They believe in what we’re doing and are really keen to get results. We just have to keep working. The Manager works 24/7, the staff all do the same and the players are receptive to everything we are doing, but obviously we just need to get some results.”
It is Ultimate Support Saturday, and Mickey was quick to praise the United supporters and the backing they give to the side:
“The support has been great. We took close to 500 to Barnet after only going there a couple of weeks ago, and on a pretty dreadful night to watch football as well.
“The backing has been great and I think they can see that it’s a team giving everything, a team that needs a little slice of luck and it’s a team creating chances. That’s a good sign for us.”
United face a Northampton side who are in top form at the moment and have put together a run that has lifted them to the edge of the play-off chasing clubs. It is something that hasn’t gone unnoticed by Mickey and the coaches:
“They are a good team and have won three on the trot, but they were in a similar position a couple of weeks ago to the one we find ourselves in. But three wins and they are just outside the play-offs so that’s how quickly it changes and it’s something we have to try and emulate.
“We know they will be really organised, and they are scoring goals at the moment so we know they are dangerous opponents”.
