Join us on New Year's day as the U's welcome the Robins
United will have James Constable available to lead the line as they welcome Cheltenham Town to the Kassam Stadium on New Year’s Day (3pm).
The club have appealed against the striker’s red card shown during the away win at Wimbledon on Saturday and will know the result of that before Saturday’s home FA Cup game against Sheffield United but Constable remains eligible until the video appeal is reviewed. That means he can play against the Robins as United look to make it ten games unbeaten.
Constable needs just one goal to catch John Aldridge and Peter Foley in the list of all time scorers for the U’s and will be hoping to start 2013 by doing that against a Cheltenham side who United have already met twice this season.
Cheltenham won the league game at Whaddon Road, United won the JPT meeting at the same ground soon after. Peter Leven scored from the penalty spot in both games for United.
Liam Davis is still troubled by a hamstring problem and may not be risked tomorrow but will be in contention when United welcome Sheffield United in the FA Cup on Saturday.
Tickets are available for Cheltenham and Sheffield United from www.oufctickets.co.uk and 01865 337533. Please note that the ticket office will be closed from 4pm today, 31st December, but the online tickets are available 24/7.
The Opposition
Cheltenham boss Mark Yates expects a tough test against the U’s telling www.ctfc.co.uk:
"Oxford are on a good run of form. They are 9 games unbeaten with 5 wins and 4 draws and he [Chris Wilder] has a settled side playing good football. Good players, good manager and it's a tough place to go.
"I consider Oxford to be an equal to the teams that have beaten us away from home so they have my upmost respect. We'll play in a way that we think will put us on top of our game. We haven't performed away from home bar Northampton recently and we need to address that. Whether it's the same team, or a different team, we must ensure it's better than our last away performance. The bottom line is that we haven't been good enough on the day when we have been away. It will be a great day of football at the Kassam and it should be good conditions. Two decent teams trying to play and hopefully we can go there and do ourselves justice.”
