Chris Wilder on the win over Plymouth
Chris Wilder was pleased as the U’s took up an early place at the top of the table with a 2-1 win over Plymouth on Saturday. Two goals from Deane Smalley sealed a third straight win for the Yellows , giving them maximum points and top spot in npower League 2.
“I’m happy” the Manager told Yellow Player . “The aim at the start of the day was to win the game and we’ve done that. I think as Manager I have the right to be a touch critical about the second half because we made some poor decisions, We had to chop and change and we lost two players because of injury so the shape of the side wasn’t great at the end, but I just thought we were a touch negative in our decisions at times in the second half.
“ My experienced boys are still sitting in the stands and maybe we tried to protect instead of moving forwards a little bit more, but when you’re 2-0 up pretty early I maybe understand that a bit. I just felt we needed to be a bit bolder in our play. We will learn from it.
“But I thought in the first half we were rampant and that we fully deserved to win the game. We should maybe have had the game sown up by half time but all credit to Plymouth who showed a bit of desire and character to come back at us. But it’s another good win and we are really pleased with the way we have started the season.
“We will travel up to Leeds on Monday and make sure we are ready for another big game on Tuesday night.”
