Wilder Looks Forward

Chris gets ready for Plymouth test

United look to continue their excellent start to the season as they welcome Plymouth Argyle to the Kassam Stadium tomorrow (3pm)

Two wins in two league games, plus Capital One Cup progress, have set the U’s up nicely for the visit of Carl Fletcher’s Argyle side,  but U’s Manager Chris Wilder refuses to let complacency creep in to his side’s thoughts as they look to set the early pace.

“We know we have another tough test ahead of us and it’s important that we are right mentally and that we show all the good stuff and the good characteristics that we have shown in the previous games.” Chris told Yellow Player

“Plymouth will be a difficult nut to crack. They got some really good results on the road last year, but it was a different season for them last year where it was all about survival and now will be a season where they look to kick on. It will be a different challenge for us to last year.”

United have tough competition at the top of the pitch where six strikers have been in good form:

“We have options at the top of the pitch” Chris said “But we will need that because those boys do a hell of a lot of work. With eight games in 28 days we have a busy schedule ahead of us and we have got to get through that. But everyone is contributing. Beano didn’t make Tuesday but Deane Smalley came in and produced a really good performance, Tommy comes off the bench and grabs the headlines, and Alfie and Sean Rigg contributed as well.

“So things are going well, we can’t hide that fact and the players deserve the credit. It is just the start, and a real early start at that but it is one we are desperate to continue.”
