PREVIEW: Blackburn Rovers v Oxford United

blackburn rovers

Oxford United travel to Blackburn Rovers on Saturday for their first Saturday 3pm kick-off of the season. This is United's first visit to Ewood Park since May 2018, and only their second trip there this millennium. In fact, United haven't won in Blackburn since 29th December 1990, but to put that into perspective, they've only played there twice since then.

OXFORD UNITED

This is Oxford's second away game of the season, following on from their narrow defeat at Coventry last Friday. Although Will Goodwin remains sidelined, Owen Dale will be hoping to feature in the squad for the first time this season, as Des Buckingham told us: "Owen has been training now for two weeks, is fully fit and available for selection." You can hear the full pre-match interview with Des HERE.

The game possibly comes a bit too soon for new signings Ferdinan Marcelino and Hidde ter Avest.

BLACKBURN ROVERS

Blackburn have an injury doubt over centre-back Hayden Carter, who had to go off in the closing stages of Rovers' 2-2 draw with Norwich City at Carrow Road. He has been unable to train this week and will be assessed ahead of the game, with Danny Batth on standby, as Blackburn manager John Eustace explains: "He hasn't trained yet this week so we'll have to look at him tomorrow. It's a bit of a concern at the moment. Nobody else is a worry. Everyone else has trained this week and so we should have a full squad."

Eustace continued: “Oxford are a very good team with an excellent manager, they’re very well coached.

“I’ve seen both of their games live and was fortunate to go to the Norwich and Coventry games. They were unfortunate to lose the game last week, they certainly didn’t deserve to lose.

“It’s going to be a very difficult game against a good team. They’re very well organised, they play an exciting style of football, they never give up.”
