Cameron Brannagan Signs a new contract to extend his stay

Brannagan New Contract

Cameron Brannagan is to continue his stay at Oxford United after signing a new long-term contract with the club.

The influential midfielder has been at United since the summer of 2018 after signing from Liverpool and his new deal ensures he will remain for this upcoming Championship campaign and beyond.

The 28-year-old has played 290 times for United and last season he finally helped lead the team get back to the second tier for the first time in 25 years.

Brannagan has also scored 51 times for United, and last season he bagged 13 crucial goals in the league and play-offs.

Speaking after signing his new deal, he said: “I’ve been here for what feels like a long time now and I’ve every single minute of it.

“Last season was special, and we want to push on now and do well as it’s a massive year for everyone at the club.

“I love the place and the people of Oxford, and this is home to me now, so there is only one place I want to be and it’s here.

“I can never repay the club for what they have done for me and I’m ready to go again and help take this club on again.”

Des Buckingham, Head Coach, said: “Cameron has been one of the best players in League One for many seasons and I am delighted we now get to see him continue with us as we enter an exciting new era.

“He has spent the past six years striving to help this club reach the Championship and his ability, goals and continued desire to win has played a key role in us being where we are today.

“But equally, over his six years, Cameron has built such a special bond and connection with the fans of this club, and this plays a huge part in who we want to be as a football club.

“Continuing to secure our best players while recruiting others is as important, if not more important, especially in this case.”

“We can now all look forward to being a much stronger team with Cameron here and look forward to his positive contributions on and off the pitch for seasons to come”.

Ed Waldron, Head of Football Operations, said: “Everyone connected to Oxford United knows how important Cameron is to us as a club.

“When we get together as a recruitment department to assess the needs of this season and beyond, it was always clear that we viewed Cameron as an integral part of that.

“Cameron is a model professional, and not only is he a leader on the pitch, but he drives the standards and culture every day within our Training Ground.

“Overall, he is a great person to work with and a fantastic embodiment of what it means to play for Oxford United.

“I know he is excited to take us into the Championship and we are all extremely delighted to know he will be here for this season and beyond.”
