Oxford United Legend James Constable has backed the club's new Advanced Football Programme: a new course that allows you to study full time for a sports qualification with Abingdon & Witney College while training with Oxford United.
This full-time programme – which is open to male students aged 16-18 on 31st August 2023 – provides them with the opportunity to develop their professional skills, knowledge and behaviours whilst studying an industry recognised sports qualification and further developing their footballing proficiency.
James told us:
"I rejoined the club last week and met some of the people on the new course. I was happy to talk to them because it's really similar to the way I got my chance in football. I wasn't quite sure what to do but wanted to keep my options open and joined a course at Cirencester College that allowed me to continue my education but also play football. That led me to playing for Cirencester and from there to Walsall and a professional career.
"Matt Green was in the year below and we ended up playing at Wembley together for Oxford. I'll always be grateful to the college and the doors that opened and to see Oxford starting up a new course is another great way that the club is helping young people."
It's not to late to register a interest and join the new course. For more information visit: https://abingdon-witney.ac.uk/oxford-united-advanced-football-programme
