Oxford United couldn’t follow up a positive day off the pitch with a win at Wycombe last night where two first half goals saw them lose ground on the play-off teams after a 2-0 defeat at Adams Park.
It came hours after the first hurdle was cleared in the search for a new home but as skipper Elliott Moore told iFollow, for the players it was a case of just focussing on the game itself:
“We all knew the positive news and that things are happening but players don’t concentrate too much on that on a matchday” he said. “The only thing we were concentrating on was the game today. Maybe over the next week we will look more into it and find out more about the new stadium but tonight was all about the game.
“I thought you could take the positives from it and we were the better team and controlled the game, but you also have to take the negatives and we conceded two sloppy goals and know what we can do better. We need to put those things right on Saturday at Burton.
“We also know we have to be more ruthless around their box. They are a very hard side to break down. If you look at the stats we probably had more of the ball and more chances but we need to finish that off.
“We won't sulk. We have just had two positive results so although this is a downer and we don’t like to lose any football game it is now all about how we move on to Saturday now. We need to put things right and get three points at Burton.”
