Oxford United look to bounce back when they welcome Bristol Rovers to the Kassam Stadium on Saturday (12.30pm)
Both sides have struggled for form since the turn of the year but U’s Boss Karl Robinson believes that a blank midweek has given his team some time to take stock and prepare for what he knows is a big game for both clubs.
“We have worked very hard this week after the defeat last Saturday” he told iFollow. “That one was hard to take and you should never underestimate the effect it can have. You have time to reflect and look at little moments where you could have done better, others where you couldn’t have done any more. But as a collective we certainly could have done more because we lost
“I never question the players’ attitude. Whatever we ask them to do in a match or on the training pitches they always give us their all and have that strength and determination to try and do the right things each time. But equally there is a fragility to any team that loses games and a reason behind it.
“Bristol are in the same situation as us and we know how difficult it is right now. It will be a hard game for both of us. We know they are a team that is well organised and having watched their game against Burton I’d have been fuming if I was Joey because I thought they were very good for a lot of the game but sometimes when you are in these positions everything seems to go against you
“We have to make sure we accept responsibility on Saturday. The pressure is part of the industry and you just have to deal with that. Whatever level of football you work in, pressure is always there and it is important. It doesn’t matter what level you play at, supporters follow you and you have got to put a performance on. We have to do that and we have to find a way of winning.”
