There was no hiding the frustration from Karl Robinson as Oxford United slipped to a 2-0 defeat at home to Sunderland on Saturday.
“No excuses for the players, the staff or the Manager” he said. “We were without players and one or two were carrying niggles and we changed the shape because of that but there were far more things that were resolvable than the things we had no control over. I am clear, I know what’s wrong and for once I am biting my lip.
“I am being careful what I say here because when you see that reaction to something that goes against you then you question that side of things. I normally say what I think but I am angry and that’s not a team that plays for me, that’s simple.
“I thought the first half was very evenly balanced although they started better than us and we played our way into the game. It was a typical game between us and I don’t think anyone showed any sign of weakness. I thought their goal came from a little bit of luck- it was a great finish but more about the way the ball got there. But then I am more disappointed with the reaction from then on
“That’s the baffling bit for me today- their desire in the second half and dealing with something negative. I don’t think we were outplayed; certain aspects of the game they outworked us and they deserved the win.
“There are a lot of games to go. It has been difficult so far but I know we will get a reaction because we know how good they are as people.”
