Oxford United head for Priestfield on Saturday as they take on Gillingham in Sky Bet League 1 looking to build on a fine 4-1 win at Accrington in their last away game
“It will be tough but every away game is the unknown and I have enjoyed the challenge of that” Karl Robinson told iFollow. “Who knows what Saturday has in store for us? I have just been told they play crowd noises during the game which will be different and a first for us. Hopefully it’s not fans singing how much they hate me!
“We have a few players available again. Alex Gorrin, Sam Winnall and Josh Ruffels were all out there in training today. Rob Atkinson has just been for a precautionary scan after he felt his groin tighten up on Tuesday but he is walking normally and that just leaves John Mousinho out through injury at the moment.
“We need to get a rhythm going now but we are into a new cycle. We built a side and then this summer we have rebuilt again and I am excited about where this squad can take us. Our biggest worry has been that we haven’t found a consistent rhythm; home, away, home, away and playing with a regular team. There’s no way of getting round the injuries we had or games being called off. We can’t change that. But we can affect the forthcoming games
“With Crewe now rearranged we have five weeks of Saturday/Tuesday games, an incredible run and maybe 12 games in five weeks, depending on cups and how you work it out. That’s almost a quarter of the season and it will take its toll but it’s another challenge we will face head on as usual.”
