Oxford United Boss Karl Robinson takes charge of the U's in a Swindon derby game for the first time on Saturday but wasn't about to stoke the rivalry still further when he spoke to iFollow today.
"There’s no need to add fuel to the fire for a local derby" he said. "You don’t write people’s team talks for them, you do your talking with the football.
"The players and staff all know what it means to the fans and there are plenty of local lads in the squad and plenty of staff who will help us get the message across. It’s a big game and it’s just such a shame that fans won’t be there to share the experience with us. The game itself is significant to a lot of people, we get that.
“We come into it on the back of a good win at Wigan and a draw against Portsmouth where I thought we played well. The plan is certainly to carry that on. We showed the togetherness that exists between the players and staff on Tuesday night and we have trained well in the build up to this one again.
“It’s a game with history and a passion to it but we have to approach it the same as any other game. Just do the right things, make sure we prepare properly, do our homework and have the same intensity and work ethic that we always show.
"If we do that then hopefully we can make the fans watching at home very happy.”
