Saturday sees Oxford United welcome Gillingham to the Kassam Stadium and we would love fans to help us help a great cause on the day.
Sobell House have formed a charity partnership with the U’s and will be holding a bucket collection on Saturday when we take on the Gills
Tim Wraith, Business Partnerships Manager at Sobell House told us:
“At Sobell House we are so pleased to have formed a charity partnership with Oxford United and are delighted to have this great opportunity to raise vital funds and awareness of the care we provide. The club have made us incredibly welcome and it is a fantastic example of two well loved organisations working together.
“I am aware that many supporters at the game will know quite a lot about Sobell House and very sadly there will be some who have a personal connection to the hospice. Since 1976 we have been providing end of life care to the people of Oxfordshire and over the years this has extended to the community and the John Radcliffe Hospital. At any one time we care for around 500 people and that is only possible through having partnerships with organisations like Oxford United.
“At Sobell House everyone is valued and everyone is important. It is not though a place where we can take away sadness. Losing a close family member or a friend is incredibly sad. What we can do though is journey with that person whose life is coming to an end and support them and their family and friends. I often think that if you want to see real kindness go to a place where people are desperate or afraid. There is something very subtle about the care at a hospice and I see kindness everywhere.
“Here is something that someone said recently about the care they received at the hospice.
“They make you forget you are dying. I think everybody at Sobell House must just be injected with some special kindness gene. I have just been bowled over by it”.
So, this is Sobell House, a hospice that is very much part of your community.
A huge thank you to Oxford United and to our supporters who have been collected outside the ground today.
