Robinson Ready For FA Cup Action

Oxford United head for Walsall on Saturday looking to make progress in the Emirates FA Cup.

It’s a ground that holds plenty of memories for Oxford fans and for Head Coach Karl Robinson in particular.

“It’s a place with a lot of memories for me” he told iFollow. “I got told I was about to become the youngest Manager on the Thursday before we played there, but not contracted, and then the fixtures came out and my first game in charge was also at Walsall.

“The year we got promoted we had been to Cheltenham on the Tuesday and then played Walsall and drew 1-1 and then won every game from then on. And last season with Oxford we went there and cemented our place in the division for this season with an unbelievable win there.

“We went on a crazy run after that game but I remember it being pivotal; we had ten men and ended up winning and I remember Jerome Sinclair scoring in front of the away fans

“I think that was the start in many ways of what we have done this season. We found a belief in ourselves. This time it’s the FA Cup and we are taking over 1,000 fans, probably closer to 1,300 which is fantastic.

"But I want to make a big call on this too. It’s not a marketing campaign from me but next Saturday we are at home to Shrewsbury. I want everyone in Oxfordshire to come and fill the ground out for us. We are at home for the first time in five weeks so let’s go win in the FA Cup, win in the Leasing.com and then get back home. We have been away for a long time and I can’t wait, but let’s do our best to get through in the FA Cup first."
