Tickets for our home match against Sunderland on Saturday 9th February are on sale now, and we need YOUR support as we target a 10,000 crowd.
The match is the first time we have met Sunderland at home in almost 20 years: on 27th February 1999 the U’s drew with the Black Cats at The Manor in the UK’s first ever pay per view football match. This is the first time that Sunderland have ever visited Grenoble Road and it is a huge match for both teams. 9,044 supporters watched that day, and we are looking for 1000 more to get behind us on this occasion.
Over the next 5 weeks, we will be regularly updating fans on ticket sales via the website and our social media channels as we look to reach this target. We have already had over 8,000 home fans twice this season, to celebrate our 125th Anniversary v Shrewsbury in October and against Southend United on Boxing Day. Similar support would see us reach our 10,000 target and a first 10,000 plus League crowd since Boxing Day 2016.
Speaking about the Sunderland match, Commercial and Marketing Director Matt Everett said:
“I’ve said since I joined the club that in order to grow and improve the atmosphere and attendance, we need to focus on making the big games bigger. I don’t think they come much bigger than this at this level. We’ve had no 10,000 plus crowd for a League game for over two years”
I know how well our fans back the big games, and hopefully this one will be no different. Sunderland will be allocated 1,800 tickets. We know that they could sell this out several times over but we need the backing of our home fans. Lets show what we can be about.
As a club we will be putting everything behind a United effort to get the message out there across Oxfordshire, using all of the channels available to us.
But there is no bigger channel than our own fans. Get the word out, and get behind us in this huge game”.
Karl Robinson added “These are the games we want to be involved in as a football club. Every player in the squad and every member of the coaching staff is right behind this. I’ve already seen first hand that the support this club receives is magnificent. We will go into this game giving everything, as we do every game we play in, and we have some huge matches coming up.”
With our season tickets, corporate tickets and the away support, the current total starts at 6,587. You can start to make a difference. Tickets are on sale now, to fans on our database, until midnight on Friday 8th February (subject to availability).
