The Head Coach Writes

Oxford United's Head Coach Karl Robinson wrote the following notes in the Peterborough United programme for the Carabao Cup first round:

Good evening everyone and welcome back as we take on Peterborough for the second time in four days. Most of you will have been here on Saturday and will have enjoyed what I thought was a very entertaining game, so if you add in that little bit of drama that comes with a night game, plus the excitement of cup football, then we should be in for a really good night.

I was very pleased with the way we went about our business on Saturday. Peterborough are such a dangerous side if they get into their rhythm, but we imposed our own way of playing on the game and I think the work rate and application were first class. If I’m being critical then we could possibly have made a bit more of our chances around the box, but don’t take anything away from our performance because we played very well.

That’s two games in and four points on the board; it might easily have been maximum points but let’s not be greedy! That’s a promising start and I was a little bit surprised afterwards when someone pointed out that we have only lost one home game in 2019 - and that was against Peterborough. We should be very proud of that statistic and be doing all that we can to extend it tonight and beyond.

You are playing a big part in that because you create a positive atmosphere and are coming here with optimism and an energy that does filter through to the pitch. It’s not always about singing and being loud, it’s also about everyone believing in each other, from the stands right through the Boardroom and on to the pitch. It’s such a good place to be right now and tonight we get a chance to keep that going in a competition in which the club has such a fantastic history.

Enjoy the game,

Karl
