Karl's Notes For Millwall

Oxford United's Head Coach Karl Robinson wrote the following notes in the programme for the Carabao Cup second round tie against Millwall:

Good evening everyone and welcome back for our Carabao Cup game against Millwall. Neil Harris continues to do an outstanding job and they are a very good side, but there seems to be something that little bit special about cup games under the lights so hopefully we can cause a bit of an upset.

I trust you had a good Bank Holiday weekend, although it has made things a little difficult in writing these notes because I have to do them before the game at Bristol Rovers on Saturday. All I can say is that we prepared really well for that game and spirits remained high despite losing to Burton here on the Tuesday night.

The disappointment that evening was perhaps made worse because it was the first time we had slipped slightly off the pace. We played extremely well at Blackpool but lost; I can accept defeat if I can see everyone playing their part and giving it their all. I think we had 17 efforts at goal, so you come away from that game cursing your luck rather than anything else.

I take responsibility for the result last week. I got my substitutions wrong and it affected the final result. I’m always willing to accept my share of the blame and you never stop learning. Someone told me I am close to my 500th game as Manager but you learn from every game you are involved in and I was kicking myself after that game.

It was only the second time we have lost at home in 2019 and thankfully we have a chance to put that right tonight. This club has a proud history in this competition, winning it 33 years ago. It would be nice to claim another scalp from a club in a higher league tonight so be loud, be proud, and enjoy the game.

Karl
