We are sad to say that this Saturday will be the last time that Shaun Derry will be in the Oxford United dug out.
After a season as First Team Coach, Shaun will be leaving the club after the game at Luton Town to explore new opportunities. He leaves with the thanks and best wishes of everyone at the club and Head Coach Karl Robinson said
“Shaun has been fantastic for us all season. He was a player who wore his heart on his sleeve and he has kept that integrity but as a coach he is meticulous in his planning, astute in his judgement and he has the total respect of everyone here: staff and players alike. We were very fortunate that he chose to join us last summer and we always knew that someone with his knowledge and experience would want to keep his options open so we thank him for all that he has done and wish him well for the future.”
Shaun told us
“It’s strange because I will be really sad to leave Oxford. It is a fantastic club and I have enjoyed every minute. Karl is an exceptional Manager but also a great person to work with and I think he is just one of many people at the club who will now be my friends for life. Sharing experiences with Karl and the coaching team has been invaluable for my own development and I intend to take those forward. You are always learning in this game and I think we have all learned so much about ourselves this season. I am so proud of the way we came through some tough times and the way we have ended the season.
“There are always so many conspiracies and daft ideas when anyone chooses to leave a club so it’s important to set the record straight. I just feel it is time to move on. At times the commute from Kent to Oxford has been challenging for me but I want to thank Tiger and Karl for giving me the opportunity and thank everybody behind the scenes. There are so many great people at Oxford United, the fans are amazing, and I look forward to coming back to see how the club continues to progress.”
