Manager Pep Clotet had mixed feelings as his United side lost 2-1 at Walsall on Saturday.
The U’s made plenty of chances but found home keeper Liam Roberts in inspired form, leaving Clotet to tell iFollow
“I have to value the performance of the Walsall team because they had a keeper who was Man of the Match but there are mixed feelings because the performance was there and gives us something to build from, but we are disappointed because we could have taken all three points.
“I think we deserved more for our performance but we got what we got because we weren’t ruthless enough in both boxes. Walsall had two chances, three if you’re not that strict, but they got two goals and we have to do better on both. We managed to create many many chances and dominate the game and when you do that and play in the oppoosition half but go home losing 2-1 despite causing the opposition a lot of problems you need to be worried. Today I thought we controlled things on the right, on the left and in the middle and created clear chances - shots, one on ones with the keeper, a lot of crosses - but unfortunately we didn’t score.
“Nobody gave up and that is a big thing with this squad. We have been through so many tough situations this season and have shown a lot of resilience as we build the squad and when things go against us we just get more together.
“The boys will feel disappointed not to have won but there was nothing negative to tell the players regarding the performance. We have to be a bit more ruthless but it happens some days that you come up against a keeper who plays fantastically well.”
