Oxford United head for Sunderland on Saturday looking to upset the odds against the hot favourites to win League 1.
“Sunderland have the best players in the league” Karl Robinson told iFollow earlier today. “They have the best array of players and they should be winning the league, so it is going to be a very difficult afternoon for us. I have been there as Manager a number of times and it is a fantastic place to play, an amazing stadium.
“Because they have started well the fans are right behind them; they had 29,000 on the opening day. So the bookies will say Sunderland should win. I always like it when they say that though!
“It’s going to be hard but we feel that since Portsmouth our performances have been very good and we have to go there in the right frame of mind. I’m sure it’s one our fans are looking forward to; maybe not the actual journey, but once they get there. And we have to make sure that we put in a performance and get the result they deserve.”
United come in to the game on the back of successive wins, both achieved since they moved to their new training base on Horspath Road. Karl is enjoying the move a lot:
“To drive in and see the Academy guys and the Under 23s, and to see the pitches right on our doorstep is great. The groundsman, Scott, is brilliant. His team have worked so hard to allow us to train here - everyone has- and we are very proud of what we have here.
“Once we get all the pitches ready and get the football club all settled here then it will be a club that can be really proud of what we have. We just have to make sure that the results on the pitch are right as well.”
