THE VERDICT: United 4 Dagenham & Redbridge 0

"They caught us on a good night." Hear Michael Appleton's thoughts on Tuesday's victory

Kemar Roofe scored the first hat-trick of his professional career last night as Oxford United swept aside bottom club Dagenham & Redbridge to consolidate their position in the automatic promotion places. Alex MacDonald weighed in with a headed goal to complete an excellent night for the U's, as Michael Appleton said to Yellow Player HD:

"They caught us on a good night, there's no doubt about it. I think the boys were still smarting from the performance that they put in at the weekend [a 1-0 defeat by Leyton Orient]. I asked for a response and I got that in abundance.

"I was frustrated at half-time when it was only 1-0 and I think the danger when you've only scored the one goal is that you leave the door slightly ajar for the opposition to pull a goal back. Once we got the second goal there was a period for about five minutes when we were a little bit sloppy and they had a couple of half chances but then all of a sudden we stepped on the gas again and could have scored another four of rive."

Michael was also very pleased for Kemar and was quick to praise both forwards:

"The partnership with Kemar and George Waring up front was very good and very positive going forward. There were a lot of good performances and while a 4-0 result looks very convincing it could have been double that."
