Second Game Added To Spain Tour

Tuesday game added to tour schedule

Oxford United are pleased to announce a new fixture for our Spanish pre-season tour.

The U’s will play Alhaurin de la Torre in a training game at 7.30pm local time on the Tuesday evening.

Alhaurin de la Torre, play in the fourth tier of Spanish football, and have a 3,000 capacity stadium and club-house.

The stadium is around 20 minutes from Benalmadena and coach travel details will follow.

This replaces the open training session that had been arranged for the Tuesday.

Club staff have worked hard to secure a fixture following the late cancellation of a previously arranged game.

The week in Spain provides a special opportunity for supporters and club staff to join together and share the spirit of Oxford United across a series of unique events.

United’s Executive Chairman, Darryl Eales, said: “I’m delighted that the club has managed to secure a fixture for the Tuesday, which I hope makes up for the disappointment of the previous cancellation.

“Everyone at the football club is extremely grateful to every supporter who is travelling to Spain, as it offers us all a unique opportunity to come together and be part of the club’s pre-season preparation.

“It will be a wonderful week, there are a number of fantastic activities lined up for supporters and club staff to share together and I’m sure everyone will have a brilliant time.

“Everyone is looking forward to it and the squad are now in full preparation mode for our L1 campaign.”

The U’s will be flying out to Benalmadena near Marbella for the week beginning 11th July.

The first day will see Michael Appleton’s new look squad train behind closed doors, and then on Tuesday 12th July will be the game against Alhaurin de la Torre

Wednesday will see the players training once more before the Yellow Army host a Beach Party for fans and staff on the Thursday evening in Benalmadena. Full details of where to meet will be announced on the Yellow Army website soon.

Then on the Friday evening will come the focal point of the week, a game against UD Marbella at United's training base at La Cala. Marbella play in the third tier of Spanish football. Kick off is at 7pm and the game will be free to watch, followed by a Chairman’s Barbecue at the same location, hosted by Darryl Eales. Players, management and staff will all be there to meet fans and look ahead to the new season.

Transport to and from the games will be available from Benalmadena. 350 fans have already told us they are coming and we will be booking transport to help everyone get to the game. To help us get numbers right for this and the barbecue please email Sarah Gooding (sgooding@oufc.co.uk) and tell us how many are in your party. We will then confirm full details for the week via email to everyone coming along.
