Taylor made for the U's
New signing Ryan Taylor has been talking to Yellow Player about life at Oxford United now he has completed his move to the club. The former Rotherham and Portsmouth centre-forward signed a two-year deal with the U’s yesterday and is now looking back to reporting for action.
“It’s great that it’s over the line and now I can’t wait to get started in pre-season” he told Yellow Player. The tall striker bagged ten goals for Pompey last season and was impressive against the U’s. He joins United looking to settle swiftly into a successful side.
“Portsmouth is a big club but I think this is a massive club as well with big ambitions” he said. “Hopefully we can live up to the expectations of the fans and the manager and be up and around the top of the league next season.”
Ryan will meet up with some familiar faces again at the Kassam Stadium:
“I know Johnny Mullins and I played with Liam Sercombe at Exeter – very good players. I know the club have signed a couple and have a couple more quality players lined up so it is looking good for next season and I’m delighted to be a part of that. I spoke to people at Portsmouth and they said it was a great club but to be honest I’d already made my mind up after speaking to Michael Appleton. He is very ambitious and I’m the same.”
Ryan knows that with excitement building at the Kassam Stadium there are certain expectations that come with that for the season ahead:
“To be honest I’d rather that expectation was there because it puts a little pressure on you to perform. I quite like that. There’s also going to be a lot of competition in the squad because there are going to be four good strikers next year but I prefer that as well; you’ve got to be on your game and I’ll be looking to do that week in week out.
“I’ll take a week off next week and then come back, stick to the pre-season programme and come back fit, strong and raring to go…”
