Oxford United players to grow their hair for charity

United players Deane Smalley, Michael Raynes, Scott Davies, Tom Newey and Sean Rigg will be growing their hair for the rest of the season in support of the Grow4Joe campaign.

Smalley, Raynes and Davies will grow their hair until the end of the campaign, while Newey and Rigg will be sporting lengthy facial hair in a mission to raise money and awareness for Leukaemia and Lymphoma Research.

The campaign was launched after Tranmere Rovers midfielder Joe Thompson was diagnosed with nodular sclerosing Hodgkins lymphoma, which requires the 24-year-old to undergo a six-month course of chemotherapy.

Speaking to oufc.co.uk, Raynes said: “Football is a close-knit community and we all pull together in situations like this. We’re all a little bit worried about how we’ll look, but it’s a great cause and we’re just hoping to raise as much money as we can.”
