Defenders hold the key as United get ready for the big Kick Off
Oxford United will wait on the fitness of centre-halves Johnny Mullins and Jake Wright as they prepare for the opening Sky Bet League 2 game of the season.
The U’s welcome Burton Albion to the Kassam Stadium on Saturday (3pm) as Michael Appleton takes charge for the first time. Appleton looks set to hand debuts to new arrivals George Long, Joe Riley, Michael Collins, Danny Hylton and Carlton Morris but it is captain Wright and his defensive partner Mullins who are causing the new Head Coach the most concern:
“I’d say they were both Fifty/50” Michael told Yellow Player today. “They both took knocks so it’s nothing long-term but they are two very influential players on the pitch and in the dressing room so we will give them as long as possible to see if they recover.
“Whoever plays will be desperate to get the season off to a great start. We have worked hard all pre-season, the new players have settled in to what is a good group of players and we can’t wait to kick-off now.”
See the full interview plus a BRAND NEW Preview Show featuring George Long, Joe Riley, Michael Raynes, Sam Long, Josh Ruffels and Callum O’Dowda plus Chief Executive Mark Ashton. That’s all in Yellow Player right now.
