Match for Mitch

United players to help former colleague Mitchell Cole

Several United players, past and present,  will be paying their respects to a former colleague tonight as Stevenage host a benefit game for Mitchell Cole.

The match, between a Stevenage XI and a Mitchell Cole XI, takes place at The Lamex Stadium with a 7pm kick-off.

Mitchell, who sadly passed away last December of a heart condition, was a key figure for Stevenage during a three and a half year period which saw the club enjoy great success, before he joined the U's.

Tickets for this game will be £10 for adults and £5 for U18s, with proceeds going to the Cole’s chosen charity, The Cardiomyopathy Association.

Stevenage have invited former team mates of Mitchell from all his clubs to attend whilst a number of Premier League players are also being asked to make a guest appearance. United manager Chris Wilder and captain Jake Wright will attend, as will Damian Batt, Harry Worley and Alfie Potter plus Jack Midson, all close friends of Mitchell. Premier League star Joe Cole and a number of his West Ham team-mates have agreed to play; Cole - Mitchell's brother-in-law - along with Kevin Nolan, Mark Noble, Matt Jarvis, James Collins and Andy Carroll, will all feature during the game.
