U's Sign Parker

Striker joins the U's

With four games in eleven days during the busy Christmas period Oxford United today signed striker Josh Parker on non-contract terms. With JP Pittman out for 12 weeks and Deane Smalley still recovering from a groin problem, the U's have brought in Parker to safeguard against further injuries.

James Constable and  Tom Craddock are the only experienced strikers available at the moment, with youngster Tyrone Marsh as back up, and the signing of Parker will help to de-risk the situation.

The Antiguan international started his career at QPR, making five senior appearances before making  a permanent switch to League One side Oldham Athletic for the start of 2011/12, making 15 senior appearances.

The 22-year-old can play on either flank or in the middle of the front line, and has impressed while training with the U’s over the last couple of weeks. Since he was unattached when the transfer window closed he was able to sign and be eligible in time for tomorrow afternoon when United welcome Fleetwood Town.

Manager Chris Wilder told us:

“Josh has done well in training and now he gets a chance to show us what he can do over a slightly longer period. Deane Smalley and JP Pittman are both out so we needed cover over the busy Christmas period and Josh is hungry to come in and impress.”
