Oxford United Women moved to within one point of National League South leaders Hashtag United following the U's comprehensive win over Billericay Town on Sunday.
United won 4-0 thanks to two goals in each half. Zoe Creaney opened the scoring ten minutes before the break, with Leah Burridge making it 2-0 at half time. Phoebie Poole scored within five minutes of the restart, with substitute Adele Lindbaek wrapping up the scoring with ten minutes remaining.
Oxford were on the front foot from the start, with Burridge getting the ball in the net after ten minutes only to be denied by the offside flag. The U's were dominant and made their superiority count in the 34th minute. A pinpoint corner was met by Creaney, whose powerful header gave former United keeper Aimee Watson no chance.
Six minutes later a perfect through ball from Jenna Legg found Burridge in space in the area and she blasted the ball high into the roof of the net from eight yards to make the half-time scoreline more reflective of Oxford's performance.
The second half was just four minutes old when Poole smashed the ball home for her fifth of the season and to effectively end the game as a contest.
Billericay did manage to clip the top of the crossbar with one shot, but otherwise Beth Howard remained relatively untroubled as Oxford saw the game out.
Lindbaek replaced Zoe Barratt with just over 20 minutes remaining, and she completed the scoring with an excellent trademark finish, cutting into the penalty area from the right and giving Watson no chance with her emphatic shot.
After the game, manager Sam Rose said: "It was a really good performance. I thought we were really good in the pressing moments, on the front foot, aggressive, and when we had to defend the box we did it really well.
"We scored some good goals today and scored from a set piece. Some of the work we did in the week to refresh our attacking patterns and runs came out in the game, so we're really pleased that we've taken another big step in the right direction."
Next weekend United are at home in the WFA Cup against Actonians in a 1:00pm kick off. Come along and cheer on the girls, whose performances are worthy of a bigger audience.
