Oxford United Women beat step four neighbours Abingdon United Women 10-0 in the determining round of the FAWNL Cup last night at the Northcourt.
United treated both the opposition and the competition with respect, playing a strong side while also taking the opportunity to give minutes to a number of players.
Oxford were 3-0 up at half-time thanks to goals from Ellie-Mae Richardson - who opened the scoring in the 14th minute - and two from Phoebie Poole, her second direct from a free kick.
Zoe Barratt, on for Poole at the interval, extended the lead from the penalty spot after she was upended just two minutes into the second half, and further strikes from Izzy Cook, Barratt, Richardson, Lucy Trinder, Leah Burridge, and Barratt with her hat-trick completed the scoring.
After the game, manager Sam Rose said, "I thought it was a real professional performance from start to finish. It was important for the girls who haven't until now had a lot of minutes to get that as it's a squad effort and we want to keep everybody ticking along."
It's a quick turnaround for United, who welcome Gwalia United to Court Place Farm on Sunday (2pm kick-off). Tickets are available HERE.
