Two goals from top scorer Mark Harris kept Oxford United heading in the right direction as they won 3-1 at Carlisle on Saturday.
The Welsh international forward moved in to double figures for the season with his brace at Brunton Park and was quick to thank the fans who had followed their team on the long journey north.
“The fans were a credit again” he told iFollow. “That’s a long way to come so fair play to them. When we came out for the warm up there were a fair few already there in the stand. We were on the bus for six or seven hours the day before so we really appreciate the way those fans got behind us today. We can’t thank them enough.
“The Gaffer said before the game not to underestimate Carlisle despite the league table. This is a difficult place to come and their results had been better at home this season where they have picked up a few results. So it was down to us attitude wise and in terms of commitment and mentality. I think we got all of those things right.
“The first 25 minutes maybe we weren’t at our best but we got through that, got the goal, settled down and then it was all about just playing our game. We got three goals up and the last few minutes were a bit hectic but we got through that, got our three points and we were really pleased.
“We are in a good position now and are moving in the right direction. Hopefully now we have set our targets for this second part of the season and we can reach them.”
