Oxford Uniited kept up their pursuit of the leaders with a battling 0-0 draw against top-of-the-table Bolton Wanderers last night at the Kassam Stadium.
“It was a good game that almost felt like a game of chess at times” Head Coach Des Buckingham told iFollow. “That’s what you get sometimes when you have two teams who are organised and want to win the game. It then becomes a case of taking your chances and although we had several we couldn’t put them in and when Bolton had two or three it was the same story. So on balance the draw was probably a fair result but I was still very pleased with what I watched.
“Bolton had just come off a 7-0 win and we know they will be up there at the end of the season. That’s where we want to be as well. To achieve that we need to perform consistently and when we have a setback like we did on Saturday we have to show a reaction, which I thought we did tonight.
“Defensively we did well and kept a clean sheet. Elliott Moore coming back helps because he is a leader on and off the pitch and you could see the difference with him in the side tonight. But it wasn’t just him. As a group, and including the players who came on, we defended well and we were always a threat at the other end as well.
"The fans came out in numbers on a cold Tuesday night so we thank them for that and if they continue to do so then we will continue to try and play good football for them and those good performances will in turn give us good results.”
